Directory Management

Add, exclude, and maintain searchable folders for each profile.

Directory Table

Each row represents a folder scanned by Colpan.

Adding a Directory

  1. Click Add Directory.
  2. Select a local folder containing UDF files.
  3. Confirm and start indexing.

Excluding Subfolders

Use exclusion rules for:

  • backup folders
  • temporary export folders
  • irrelevant archives

External Index Databases (+ DB Add)

You can attach an external hash index built on another machine.

  1. Click + DB Add.
  2. Select header.txt from external index folder.
  3. Give it a label.
  4. Use it as a search source without copying original files.

Expected structure:

|- header.txt
|- content.bin
`- content.idx

Note: current app behavior keeps this action disabled on Profile 1.

Best Practices

  • Keep one profile focused on one case type.
  • Prefer local SSD folders for speed.
  • Re-index after mass file changes.

Troubleshooting

If a directory does not return results:

  • Verify the active checkbox.
  • Check index status.
  • Re-index the folder.
